Roadtrip 2016 Fall: Vancouver - Yakima - Bend - John Day River - Port Orford - Florence - Seaside - Vancouver

Day 10 - John Day Fossil - Painted Hills Unit

Today's hikes are actually a whole bunch of little hikes to the weirdness that is Painted Hills.

Once again, the thrumming noise. And the creeping green stuff.

The Park Service has tried to block the path of the green stuff with that tree branch. Strangely, it's working.

A lone tree survives in a grassy depression - resistant to the green goo.

This is always a good time for a nap.

Just for Dr Mac of the NIght Owl Bird Hospital. Except this must be a day owl. Hmmm - not a good sign - he's got one constricted and one dilated pupil. Maybe we really do need Dr Mac. Or he just shouldn't be out in the daytime!!

The light and clouds are superb this afternoon.

Russ and Emma wondering what's taking so long - they want to get to the top of the trail for summit snacks.

The green stuff makes the big move to take over the valley.

The imaginary River White runs through it.

Large lumps of green stuff balefully watch Wendy walk away.

Oh oh, the next storm is on the horizon. It is angry.

Painted Hills overwatch.

That's our Twickenham Valley down there.

Last night at the ranch. The time has gone by way too fast.
